How to Apply for an NRI Certificate (Simple Steps)

1. Register on the eCCSS Portal
   Before applying in person or by mail, you must register online on the eCCSS portal.

2. Fill Out the Application

   • Download and complete the Miscellaneous Application Form

   • Attach one passport-size photograph

   • Include a letter explaining the purpose of the certificate (e.g., for university admission)

3. Submit Entry/Exit Records

   • Provide a list of your travel in and out of India to prove you’ve lived abroad for over 182 days

   • An affidavit confirming this can also be submitted

4. Attach Required Documents

   • Notarized copies of the first and last page of your Indian passport

   • Pages showing visa stamps or immigration records

   • Notarized copy of immigration documents (e.g., PR card, Work Permit)

   • Proof of residence abroad, such as a utility bill or U.S. driver’s license

5. Fee Payment

   • Pay a non-refundable fee of US $25, plus $2 for the Indian Community Welfare Fund

   • Payment must be made by money order or cashier’s cheque only (no cash, cards, or personal cheques)

6. Mail the Application

   • Send all documents, fees, and a trackable pre-paid return envelope to:

Processing Time

• 4 to 5 business days from the date the complete application is received

• Delays may occur if documents are missing or unclear
